So the water park closed. Now what?
If you've spent the last four months treating NRH2O like a second address, this past Saturday probably felt like the end of something. The park's own site framed it as exactly that: a bonus day, a last splash before the season wrapped, dogs welcome for one final splash with their people. But if you drove past Boulevard 26 that same evening, you'd have found City Hall Plaza doing the opposite of closing down. That's the part worth sitting with, because it's not a coincidence. It's how this stretch of North Richland Hills has worked for a while now.
One Saturday, Two Calendars
September 26 was NRH2O's last operating day of the 2026 season, capped with a bonus splash for families and their pets. It was also the kickoff date for the city's Autumn Sounds Concert Series, which opened with 90 Proof Country playing City Hall Plaza to a free, ticketless crowd. Same city, same Saturday, one calendar ending and another one starting on the same patch of Boulevard 26.
That's the actual shape of a North Richland Hills fall. The water park doesn't leave a gap. It hands the baton to a plaza that was already scheduled to pick it up.
What's Actually On The Plaza Through October
The next Autumn Sounds date is October 10, when 80s Gadgets takes the stage with light projections from Lightware Labs, promising a full 80s set to close out a concert series that started with 90s country two weeks earlier. Both shows share the same terms: free admission, free parking, a kids area built for ages three to ten, food trucks on-site if you don't want to pack a picnic, and leashed dogs welcome on the plaza. Parking runs off Rodger Line Drive or City Point Drive, with overflow directed by Public Safety on the night.
Running alongside the concert series, and starting the same Saturday, is a separate program the city is calling Autumn at NRH City Hall: free family programming every Saturday from September 26 through October 24. That's five consecutive Saturdays of city-run activity at the same address, 4301 City Point Drive, layered on top of the concert nights rather than competing with them. If you're mapping your next few weekends, October 3, October 10, October 17, and October 24 are the Saturdays still ahead, with the 10th doing double duty as both a family Saturday and an Autumn Sounds concert night.
| Series | Dates | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Autumn Sounds Concerts | Sept. 26 (90 Proof Country), Oct. 10 (80s Gadgets) | City Hall Plaza, 4301 City Point Drive |
| Autumn at NRH City Hall | Every Saturday, Sept. 26 through Oct. 24 | City Hall, 4301 City Point Drive |
The Water Park's Neighbors Never Had A Season
Here's the part that actually changes how you plan a weekend here. NRH2O sits on Boulevard 26, and it closes every year around Labor Day because it's an outdoor water park in North Texas. But its two closest neighbors on that same stretch don't answer to the weather at all.
Peppa Pig Theme Park sits right next to NRH2O, built on the old Mountasia Family Fun Center site, and it runs year-round with rides and playscapes scaled for kids six and under. It opened as the second Peppa Pig Theme Park in North America, after Florida, and it doesn't have an off-season because there's no pool to drain.
A few minutes away on Airport Freeway, Malibu Jack's took over the old At Home building and turned 137,000 square feet into indoor go-karts, a spinning roller coaster, laser tag, glow golf, duckpin bowling, and more than 130 arcade games. Mayor Jack McCarty called it Texas' largest indoor theme park when it opened, and unlike the water park a mile up the road, its calendar doesn't have a closing weekend.
So the practical read for a family that spent the summer at NRH2O: the destination changes, not the neighborhood. You're not driving to a different city to keep the same kind of Saturday going. You're driving a few minutes down Boulevard 26 or over to Airport Freeway.
| Attraction | Address | Season |
|---|---|---|
| NRH2O Family Water Park | 9001 Boulevard 26 | Seasonal, closes after Labor Day |
| Peppa Pig Theme Park | 8851 Boulevard 26 | Year-round |
| Malibu Jack's | 8651 Airport Freeway | Year-round |
Same Ground, Different Decade
The plaza hosting these concerts sits on ground that's done this before, just louder. Before it was City Hall, this stretch near Boulevard 26 and North Tarrant Parkway was Green Valley Raceway, a drag strip and road course that ran from 1960 to 1986. Evel Knievel jumped 11 Mack trucks there. The city eventually put up a plaza off North Tarrant Parkway, just east of Smithfield Road, to mark that history.
It's a different kind of noise now, an acoustic country set instead of engines, but the function hasn't changed much. This is still the part of North Richland Hills where the city puts on its show, whether the crowd showed up in the 1970s for motorsports or shows up now for a free Saturday concert with a kids area and food trucks.
The Weekends Actually Left On The Calendar
If you're building out the rest of your fall around what's confirmed rather than what's rumored, here's what's locked in:
- October 3: Autumn at NRH City Hall family Saturday, City Hall, free.
- October 10: Autumn Sounds Concert, 80s Gadgets with Lightware Labs, plus that week's family Saturday programming, same location.
- October 17: Autumn at NRH City Hall family Saturday, City Hall, free.
- October 24: Autumn at NRH City Hall family Saturday, City Hall, free, closing out the series.
And any weekend in between, rain or shine, Peppa Pig Theme Park and Malibu Jack's are open on their normal hours, no season pass required, no closing date to plan around.
North Richland Hills didn't lose its water park season so much as hand it off. The plaza picked up the crowd the pool used to hold, and the two indoor parks a few minutes away picked up the rest. That's not a consolation prize for summer ending. It's just how the calendar here is built.
If you're the kind of person who tracks a neighborhood by what's actually open on a given Saturday rather than what a listing photo promises, that's the kind of detail Jennifer Frank tends to know before it shows up in a search result.
